Modern Foreign Languages

Modern Foreign Languages Department {French & Spanish}

The Thomas Bennett Modern Language Department is a successful team of six enthusiastic and experienced linguists who are excellent classroom practitioners. We insist on the highest standards of classroom behaviour and have high expectations of pupil achievement. We have very clear systems in place to support our students and each other and it is a very organised and efficient team. Our aim is to provide opportunities and encouragement for all our students to achieve success.

The department is a key part of the core curriculum at Key Stage 3 {Years 7, 8 and 9}, and a  GCSE option at Key Stage 4 {Years 10 and 11}, and available at AS / A2 at Key Stage 5 {Years 12 and 13}.  Classes are generally setted groups.  Students can choose which language they study from Year 7.

At Key Stage 4, students who wish to achieve the English Baccalaureate qualification must achieve a minimum GCSE grade C in a modern foreign language {together with English, Maths, Science and a humanities subject}.
