Curriculum
Thomas Bennett has a wide, varied and, where possible, personalised curriculum. At Key Stage 4 and 5 in particular, we tailor the curriculum very closely to individual students.
Information on these pages gives a brief description of each department and a list of current staff and resources. There are then links to the curriculum offer for each of the subjects, divided by year group and term.
Homework KS3
At Thomas Bennett we endeavour to support student learning at every level and this includes developing independent learning outside of the school environment. At Key Stage 3 (Y7, 8 and 9) it is particularly important that students learn the skills of completing work in their own time and under their own direction as these are essential to successful study at GCSE level and in Sixth Form.
We appreciate the strong links between school and home and we urge you to monitor homework via your child’s contact book and check their weekly homework tasks. In order to organise your child’s time effectively and to keep you informed we expect students to write their homework task into their contact book. To help you keep up to date with the work your child should be doing at home, we have included on the website the key tasks that students will be doing over the course of each term.
In Art and Humanities students are asked to complete Homework Projects each half-term students will complete a homework project. This will be an extensive piece of work and students will be expected to complete over 5 to 6 weeks. Students will hand in their completed project at the end and receive 5 House points for completing their project and meeting a deadline. Students will receive homework from their other subjects as normal.

Tips for effective homework |
Make sure your child has a quiet, well-lit place to do homework |
Avoid having your child do homework with the television on or in places with other distractions |
Help your child with time management |
Establish a set time each day for doing homework. Don‘t let your child leave homework until just before bedtime. Think about using a weekend morning or afternoon for working on big projects. |
Be positive about homework |
Tell your child how important school is. The attitude you express about homework will be the attitude your child acquires. |
Stay informed |
Talk with your child‘s teacher. Communicate with your child's teacher via their student planner about the quality and quantity of homework. |
Encourage your child to use the school library |
This is open before school, during break time, lunch time and after school. There are lots of resources that can support your child in completing their homework. |
Encourage your child to attend Homework Clubs |
Homework Clubs run every day after school in the Learning Support Unit. Students are able to work with teachers and access resources to help them complete their homework successfully |
