May 2017 update

Elderflower Field Festival

Thomas Bennett Community College Forest School has been selected to take part in an Art Trail at a local family festival called #ElderflowerFieldsFestival in Nutlet near Uckfield. The festival is due to take place the 26th, 27th and 28th of in May.

Students who have been involved with #ForestSchools since September 2016 have been invited to take part in creating this work by means of a Forest School after School club. This club will run on Tuesday and Wednesday 3- 4pm throughout May in the lead up to the event weekend. A small group of students will install the work on site and the first 8 students to sign up will also be offered a free ticket to the festival including a pass for an adult to supervise them.

The work created will be inspired by sound and movement and has an environmental focus through our choice of resources. Materials used will largely come from the natural environment or originate from ‘waste’ materials, such as, old milk bottles. The subject of our installation is ‘Dreams and Aspirations’ and titled ‘Forest of Dreams’.

We intend for the students to work together produce giant dream catchers and viewing chairs which will be hung in the trees or placed in the woods. Students will also be involved with tree weaving and will be asked to verbally record their responses, thoughts and feelings around dreams and future aspirations to be included in a sound installation to accompany our work.

At the present time we would welcome any donations of:

Old hoola hoops
Milk bottles and lids all sizes (washed out and lid removed)
Plastic bottles of all colours (washed out and lid removed)
Round shaped yoghurt pots (washed out)

Thank you
