Computing/ICT is a compulsory subject in Year 7 and 8. In Year 9 students can choose to study either Computer Science or ICT through to Year 11. We also offer Cambridge Technicals L3 in our Sixth Form.
Years 7 and 8
During these years student are taught key skills in ICT to enable them to transfer these skills to other curriculum subjects. Computer Science is now a major part of the National Curriculum and students start to use a range of programming applications, developing their knowledge of these whilst at the same time developing skills in analytical thinking.
Years 9 to 11
From Year 9 all students study for their GCSEs. We currently follow the OCR Cambridge Nationals syllabus for ICT and the AQA Computer Science GCSE syllabus.
For the Cambridge Nationals students carry out a range of controlled assessment units, taking an exam in Year 10. In Computer Science, there are two exams and one controlled assessment unit, all of which are completed in year 11.
Years 12 and 13
We offer OCR Cambridge Technicals in these years. Students are assessed through a combination of exams and coursework. We recommend that students achieve a minimum of Grade 3 in ICT or Computer if they would like to continue the subject at this level.
