Science is a compulsory subject from Years 7 through to 11. We also offer AS and A Level Science disciplines in our Sixth Form.
Years 7 and 8
Throughout the first two years of science at TBCC we look to embed core skills, exploring the subject through carrying out practical investigations, addressing key scientific concepts and building confidence in extended writing and problem solving. The areas we learn about are atoms, bonding and materials, cell and human biology, ecology, energy, electricity and forces.
Years 9 to 11
From Year 9 all students study for their GCSEs. We currently follow the AQA Combined Science: Trilogy GCSE syllabus.
All exams for this course take place at the end of Year 11. There is no coursework in GCSE Science.
Please note that the above information does not apply to our year 11 cohort this year (2016-17). These students are following a legacy course, the last year of the old specification.
Years 12 and 13
We offer AS and A Level science disciplines in the sixth form and follow the AQA syllabus. Due to the demands of the subject, we recommend that students achieve at least a Grade B in GCSE Science if they would like to continue the subject at this level.
