Technology is a department area that offers three main areas of specialism at Key Stage 3 and 4. These areas are Resistant Materials Technology, Graphics Technology and Food Preparation and Nutrition.
Years 7 and 8
Throughout key stage 3 students engage in three lessons of Technology over the two week timetable rotation. During the year they complete one Resistant Materials Technology unit, one Graphics Technology unit and one Food Preparation and Nutrition unit.
All of the units are designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to study the subject at GCSE level in years 9, 10 and 11. Equally we believe that it is important to prepare student for life and therefore ensure that each unit includes practical lessons that enable them to cook healthy and nutritious meals for themselves and others.
Years 9 to 11
From year 9 onwards students follow a chosen Technology route at GCSE level. The courses that we offer are:
- WJEC Resistant Materials Technology.
- WJEC Graphics Technology.
- OCR Food Preparation and Nutrition.
Years 12 and 13
Currently in year 12 we offer a one year GCSE (Level2) course in Graphics Technology. This is again with the WJEC examination board.
