Expedition to Cambodia 2017
Month Long Trip To Cambodia!
This year, students from Thomas Bennett Community College are embarking on an adventure of a lifetime – a month long trip to Cambodia. The expedition will include a four day trek in the jungle and working on community projects in the local area. Camps International, the company behind the expeditions, are an award winning organisation who believe in working with local people in the communities they travel to, working collaboratively to manage projects which will truly change people’s lives. Previous and ongoing projects include building schools and community centres, planting trees to replenish the natural environment, installing plumbing systems in villages without running water, and many more. As well as contributing to these worthwhile projects, the group of students will be able to see some of the most famous sights in Cambodia, interact and network with other students from around the country, and experience an entirely new way of life. Students have been busy raising money to fund their travel for this amazing experience, and are sure to come back with a fresh new outlook on the world. For more information about the incredible work that Camps International are involved with, visit their website: www.campsinternational.com.
Stay tuned for updates from the students who are heading off on this adventure!
Fundraising efforts are on the up as we move ever closer to our exciting expedition to Cambodia. Students have been busy raising money by cycling their way through Parents’ Evenings and Options Evening, with buckets available for any loose change – as they say, every little helps! We are also in the middle of planning a raffle for the staff of Thomas Bennett Community College, with prizes ranging from some lovely Portuguese wines to car washes! This raffle will be held next half term, and any donations of prizes, no matter how small will be greatly appreciated. The students have also begun chatting with the students from our composite school in Dover, in order to form some friendships before we arrive at the airport to head off on our adventure – hopefully this trip will be the beginnings of some lasting friendships, for students and staff alike. And of course, now that we are in the middle of arranging our plan for the day we leave the luxuries of flushing toilets and warm showers behind, it’s all starting to become very real, and very exciting
