Our Curriculum

THE CORE SUBJECTS OF ENGLISH, MATHS AND SCIENCE ARE GIVEN A STRONG EMPHASIS IN OUR CURRICULUM.

STUDENTS ARE ALSO GIVEN A WIDE VARIETY OF OPPORTUNITIES TO DEVELOP THEIR TALENT AND INTEREST IN SPORT, LANGUAGES, TECHNOLOGY, HUMANITIES AND THE ARTS.

Key Stage 3

Students study: English language, English literature, mathematics, science, PE, Spanish or French, geography, history, ICT (year 8 onwards), food studies, design technology, art, music, drama and think time (Y7 only) The curriculum in each subject is designed to develop the students’ skills and to prepare them to study the subject at Key Stage 4.

Students are taught in sets for English, mathematics, science and French/Spanish and in mixed ability tutor groups for other subjects. This enables the students to work with similar ability students in the core subjects while giving them opportunities to build positive relationships with the students in their tutor group.

Key Stage 4

Students study the compulsory core subjects of: English language, English literature, mathematics, science and PE.  Students also choose further subjects to study from: Spanish, French, geography, history, computing, ICT, art, child development, dance, drama, food studies, graphic design, health and social care, media studies, music, GCSE PE, resistant materials, sociology and travel and tourism.

The vast majority of students will study for 9 or 10 GCSE qualifications. A small number of students study for fewer qualifications and are given additional support to maximise their progress.

Students are taught in sets for English, mathematics and science; in other subjects they are taught in either sets or mixed ability groups.
